The founder of our company, which was originally named Mothers Work, was an architect back in 1982 when she became pregnant for the first time. Unable to find maternity clothes appropriate for a professional woman, Rebecca decided to make her own! She invested her hard-earned money into her “baby” while simultaneously taking care of her new baby. In 1989 the first Mothers Work store opened in Boston. Rebecca and her husband, Dan Mathias ran the business until it went public in 1992. From there the fruit of her labors eventually conceived A Pea in the Pod and MotherhoodMaternity. Mothers Work officially became Destination Maternity in 2008. Rebecca remained the CEO until 2010. Today she is a published author and continues to write from her home in Philadelphia.
